Drake 2012

Drake 2012

He was born with the name Aubrey Drake Graham, but we all know him as just Drake. He’s a rapper, a singer, and has even done numerous jobs as an actor. He grew up in Toronto, Ontario, Canada while being influenced by his father Dennis Graham, who played drums with Jerry Lee Lewis. Two of his uncles were also musicians, so I guess music was in his genes!

In 2001, he got his first job as an actor, playing the role of Jimmy Brooks in the television series Degrassi: The Next Generation. He made appearances in 138 episodes. In addition to his role in Degrassi, he made appearances in television series like Blue Murder, Soul Food, Instant Star, Beyond the Break, Punk’d and more.  Drake also acted in movies such as Charlie Bartlett, Mookie’s Law, Breakaway, and Ice Age 4: Continental Drift.

Drake’s first musical release with his mixtape titled Room for Improvement which was in February 2006. Soon to follow in 2007, came the second Drake mixtape titled Comeback Season producing a single and a music video for the song “Replacement Girl” that featured the singer Trey Songz. His music video was broadcasted on the television station BET, making his the first unsigned Canadian rapper to have his video shown on the station.

The rapper’s true success didn’t arrive until 2008 when the popular artist Lil Wayne was provide with and encouraged to listen to some songs by Drake.  Soon Drake was touring with Wayne, and even recording with him. Still unsigned, he became a crew member of Lil Wayne’s group Young Money. He released yet another mixtape called So Far Gone which gained huge success, getting over 2,000 downloads in the first 2 hours of release. It also provide two hit singles, “Best I Ever Had” and “Successful”, which caused the mixtape to be released as an EP. The EP, however, only featured five songs from the original mixtape and a new song.

He soon signed to a major record label, even though he had already achieved big success. He would then release two studio albums. Currently there are two Drake albums, being Thank Me Later and Take Care. I’m unsure if there is any word of a new Drake album.

Drake has worked with acts like Rick Ross, Rihanna, Dr. Dre, Alicia Keys, Eminem and more! He is currently performing with J. Cole and Waka Flocka Flame. He is also set to perform at the OVO Fest Tickets 2012 in Toronto, Ontario on August 5. Don’t miss your chance to see this superstar in action!
