Familiar with the post-hardcore band From First to Last? Or maybe you’re just a fan of dub-step and electronic music and have heard of him from there. Either way, you’re probably reading this because Skrillex has stolen your heart with his awesome mixes and remixes. Lets talk about it!

Sonny John Moore was born in January 15, 1988 in Northeast Los Angeles. At age two he moved to San Francisco where he was raised and went to school. From age 9 to 10 he attended a boarding school located in the Mojave Desert, however he eventually moved back to Northern California. By age tweleve his family moved him back to where he was born in Northeast Los Angeles where he was enrooled in a private academy school that specialized in arts. Eventually, at the age of 14, Moore was home schooled. He was then adopted and dropped out of the school he was attending when he was 16. He often attended punk gigs in Mexican American neighborhoods in East and South L.A., then in years to come he would go to electro club raves.

Moore’s From First to Last years went from 2004 to 2007. He contacted Matt Good about playing guitar for the band on their debut album and after flying out to Georgia, he was heard singing by three studio producers and replaced Good on lead vocals, making Good the guitarist. In June 2004, Epitaph Records released the band’s first full-length record with their new bandmate. Their first album was titled Dear diary, My Teen Angst Has a Body Count. After several successful tours they recorded and released their second album, Heroine. After ungoing through a successful vocal surgical procedure, he resigned from the band to persue his solo career.

In 2008, he began producing and performing under the alias Skrillex at clubs in the Los Angeles area. In 2010 Moore released his debut EP, My Name is Skrillex as a free download. He provided programming and vocals for the metal band Bring Me the Horizon on their third studio album “There Is a Hell, Believe Me I’ve Seen It. there Is a Heaven, Let’s Keep It a Secret”. Which I found pretty interesting. He began touring nationwide with fellow producer Deadmau5. He eventually signed to mau5trap recordings and released his second EP, Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites. Since, he has work with Korn, Kaskade, Tommy Lee, DJ Aero, and other musicians/bands.

Skrillex’s work has been featured on media like the commercial for Mortal Kombat 9 (“Reptile”), and the PlayStation 3 game Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception (“Kill EVERYBODY”). He has released a total of four EPs as Skrillex, including More Monsters and Sprites and Bangarang. He also released the EP Gypsyhood in 2009 for his solo career. He has been nominated for five awards and has won three, these being Best New Artist (Nominated), Best Dance Recording (Won), Best Dance/Electronic Album (Won), Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical (Won), and Best Short Form Music Video (Nominated).
