One Direction on Tour In 2012

One Direction 2012 Tour

One Direction 2012 Tour

One Direction, for those who do not know, is a British boy band that was formed in 2010. The group consists of the five members Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson. They have released one studio album called “Up All Night” which debuted at #2 on the United Kingdom Album Chart after selling 138, 631 copies. Not to mention, it was the fastest selling debut album on the UK Album Chart in 2011. The album was even more successful in the United States, with a total of 176,000 copies in its first week, making them the first group from the United Kingdom to debut at number one in the United States with their debut album.

One Direction achieved their fame through the seventh season British television series The X Factor. The X Factor is a talent show, similar to American Idol; however instead of just focusing on the individual talent of one singer, the show judges the talents on a wide array of musical abilities of musical groups. I like the concept of the show more than American Idol, plus it has the awesome criticism of Simon Cowell. The pop group came in third on the show, and shortly after signed to Simon Cowell’s record label Syco Records. I’ve noticed that the group shares a similar demographic as the popular pop artist Justin Beiber.

Why Beware the Ides of March?

Ides March

Ides March

Beware the Ides of March! That is what I would say if I were superstitious, but luckily I am not. Today marks the 15th day of March in the Roman calendar, which is labeled as the Ides of March. The meaning of Ides is not so dreadful; in fact, it is not bad at all. The word “Ides” is derived from the Latin word “Idus” which translates to “half division”, mainly relating to this period in the month. The term ides was used for the 15th day of other months as well, including May, July, and October. It was also used for the 13th day of the other months. The Ides of March, contrary to my first statement, was a festive day celebrating the Greek god Mars, usually with a military parade.

Bachelor 2012

Image

On Monday, March 12, 2012, ‘Bachelor’ Ben proposes to Courtney, of Scottsdale, during the season finale of the television series, The Bachelor. Well that’s all fine and dandy, but what about the other girl? I think a lot of people may have favored Lindzi Cox, the runner-up on this season. Many Bachelor fans are probably dying to know how she feels about Ben’s decision. I know, given I was a girl, if my last date with someone involved a horse-drawn carriage, skiing down the Swiss Alps, and a picnic on the stopped tramway that traveled up to the Matterhorn, hovering high over the Alps, I would definitely never get that out of my memory or my heart! Isn’t that like a dream come true to most of you ladies? Us average guys couldn’t even imagine having the time and money to arrange such a thing!

Chances are, if you are reading this and you are thrity years or older, you probably aren’t to familiar with the British Boy Band One Direction. However, if you are a teenage girl, I’d be willing to bet you are well aware of the existance of these five “hunky” fellows. Regardless, there is a good chance everyone in North America will be hearing about One Direction tour one way or another. They are set to be cannon balling into the United States and it is predicted, by Simon Cowell himself, that they will be making quite the splash!

For those who don’t know, One Direction is five piece boy band from the United Kingdom. They gained their popularity through The X Factor U.K., a talent show initiated by Simon Cowell (the seriously critical/my favorite judge from American Idol). One Direction came in third place on the seventh series of the show and even though they didn’t win the competition, I believe they probably won in overall popularity and post-show success. After The X Factor, the quintet signed to Syco Records, which is a nationally combined business between Simon Cowell and Sony Music Entertainment.

It seems like the boy band thing hasn’t been all that popular since the late 90’s, maybe early (very early) 2000’s since Backstreet was back. Other than that, it seemed as though the boy band crave tapered away. At least Justin Timberlake made his career last. Yet, it is said that they could bring back this fem-driven style of music with their eye catching appearances (yeah, they’re cute) and their lyrically sweet, pop songs that have all the teen girls raging.

The group’s debut single “What Makes You Beautiful” was released into public on September 11, 2011. It achieved the number one rank on the UK Singles Chart, selling over 150 thousand copies, making it become the third quickest selling single of 2011. Their first first and currently only album Up All Night reached number two on the UK Albums Chart after selling over 138 thousand copies. The single “What Makes You Beautiful” won the award for Best British Single at the 2012 BRIT Awards in February 2012. One direction has also published three books, these being One direction:Forever young (Our Official X Factor Story), which was released on February 2011; One Direction: The Official Annual 2012, released on September 1, 2011; and Dare to Dream: Life as One Direction which achieved  the top spot on the Sunday Times Non fiction Hardback Bestseller list.

Seeing that they have been so very successful this far in their career, what are the odds that they will flourish in the United States? I’ve seen a lot of critism from the male crowd, but does that surprise you? Dude’s don’t admitt to liking Justin Bieber or The Backstreet Boys, so why would they be anything but disapproving of this bands entrance into the States? I may be a dude, but I think they may just pull it off over here, specially with the huge number of young females residing in this great nation! What do you think?

Speak Now World Tour

Who is Taylor Swift? That isn’t a common question is it? An American country pop singer, songwriter, musician, and actress, Swift has done a little bit (or a lot) of nearly everything!  She has released three albums titled, Taylor Swift (2006), Fearless (2008), and most recently, Speak Now (2010). She has been in four movies, two inwhich she was a cameo (a brief part inwhich a popular performer makes an appearance). The two that she did a cameo in were Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience, and Hannah Montana: The Movie. The other two, inwhich she played major roles in, were Valentine’s Day and Taylor Swift: Journey to Fearless. She has also been on multiple television series, such as CMT Crossroads, Saturday Night Live, and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. In addition she did the voice for Audrey in a recenlty released movie, The Lorax.

Familiar with the post-hardcore band From First to Last? Or maybe you’re just a fan of dub-step and electronic music and have heard of him from there. Either way, you’re probably reading this because Skrillex has stolen your heart with his awesome mixes and remixes. Lets talk about it!

Sonny John Moore was born in January 15, 1988 in Northeast Los Angeles. At age two he moved to San Francisco where he was raised and went to school. From age 9 to 10 he attended a boarding school located in the Mojave Desert, however he eventually moved back to Northern California. By age tweleve his family moved him back to where he was born in Northeast Los Angeles where he was enrooled in a private academy school that specialized in arts. Eventually, at the age of 14, Moore was home schooled. He was then adopted and dropped out of the school he was attending when he was 16. He often attended punk gigs in Mexican American neighborhoods in East and South L.A., then in years to come he would go to electro club raves.

A new wave of music has been slowly taking control of the music scene. You hear it in comercials, movies, and all over the web. Young DJs are developing their own mixes at home everyday and posting them online on varies websites like soundcloud.com and reverbnation.com. I remember when you thought DJ or Disk Jocky, you thought of the guy or girl who brought their old vinels and scratch board equipment to clubs to mix up some hip hop hits. Now I believe the word DJ has be revolutionized into something much larger. Instead of all the giant disks and the scatch board, you have a laptop and all sorts of electronic equipment. It’s gone purely digital! Most of today’s modern DJs are also producers, creating and producing their own music and effects.
